Dear Little Man,

You're living in exciting times, Little Dude. Yesterday we elected a new President. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois will be sworn in as our next President in January.

Things are tough right now. We're fighting two wars. The economy is pretty bad. We're just starting to realize that oil won't last forever. A lot of people don't have health care. Whoever won this election was going to face a uphill battle.

But... Even with the current situation, the results of this election will pay dividends for years down the road.

We'll get things like cleaner energy and stem cell research. We'll stop torturing people. We'll start rebuilding our infrastructure. The world will see us differently. We'll see ourselves differently.

American democracy is a beautiful thing. It's very exciting when the candidate you voted for wins. Someday you'll experience this thrill.

Also, he's black. Ideally, your generation won't even notice this. But at this moment in time, this is kinda a big deal.

Love,

Dad

The Audacity of Hoops

Barack Obama is coming to the school where I work tomorrow.

Our Friday lunch time hoops group got kicked off the basketball court early so they could set up for him.

What the hell?

Barack is a total baller. He would have let us keep playing.
